Formica® Compact Grade is a versatile, high performance material. Its solid laminated core comprises multiple layers of resin-impregnated quality kraft papers with, generally, a decorative surface on both sides. This impressively strong and damage-resistant homogeneous laminate has excellent strength and dimensional stability.
Because of its inherent structural solidity, in thicknesses of 6mm and above Compact Grade laminate is self-supporting for most vertical applications. For horizontal applications the optimum thickness will depend on the distance between supports. This quality greatly simplifies and quickens fabrication.
The material can be cut, shaped and routered to produce the stylish shapes and forms demanded by contemporary design. The distinctive black edge of standard grade may be cut square or bevelled and polished, giving an all-round finish with a striking design feature.
Being so robust, Compact Grade is ideal for applications demanding mechanical strength, damage resistance, hygiene, long life and minimum maintenance. It has excellent resistance to impact, water, humidity and heat. Frequently used to manufacture lockers and cubicles for high traffic or wet areas in public buildings such as health clubs, swimming baths, schools and prisons, its inherent properties also make it an ideal choice for laboratory work surfaces.
Compact laminate comes in standard (CGS) grade with a black core and in flame-retardant (CGF) grade with a brown core. The laminate meets all the requirements of EN 438, ISO 4586, and the highest performance levels specified in BS 4965.
All of the Plain Colours Range except MicroDot and Glow items, and most items in the Woodgrains and Patterns ranges, are available as Compact Grade, with a sheet size of 3660mm x 1525mm in thicknesses from 2mm to 20mm. A few, mostly from the Plain Colours Range, are also available in sheet size 3660mm x 1830mm, at 12mm thick, in CGS only.
